3DVCA is like some kind of space-age inter-dimensional cross-fading battleground of four feuding VCAs demanding your attention in 3D space.

3DVCA

Brilliantly coloured and very compact the 3DVCA has only a couple of controls to enable some pretty versatile signal routing. It’s designed to be a highly configurable connection matrix where four VCAs share three macro controls that shape incoming and outgoing signals in a similar way to placing points in 3D space. Got it? Good!

You can use it as a quad monophonic crossfader, a dual stereo crossfader, a stereo balancer, a stereo VCA, mono to stereo panner, 8 channel unity mixer and a quadraphonic panner. All from this little compact 6HP purple module.

Each output has a dedicated Sum input to allow any external signals to be mixed straight in. This means you can daisy chain as many 3DVCAs up as you like for some seriously complex patching.

When using the crossfader the X and Y parameters follow an equal-power curve. This keeps the output the same volume regardless of what’s being mixed. Z, on the other hand, follows a linear curve which is always predictable.

3DVCA is all DC coupled so you can use control voltage as well as audio and there’s plenty of headroom for all sorts of signals.

Fast and furious

I’m loving the little display that’s giving you an indication of what’s going on. So ultimately, if I’m understanding this correctly, you plug in 4 signals and use the three controls XY and Z to control them. So using different controls picks out different combinations of the 4 inputs. Resulting in a very varied output in mono, stereo or quadraphonic, or varied modulations. Something like that!
