No Madd Solar Amps are a company from France that build solar powered amplifiers that can hold a charge using an inbuilt battery and then allow you to play practically anywhere.
Solar powered amps! Yes, I know, wow!
I asked my colleague who was at Musikmesse today to find something cool and he did not disappoint (cheers Claudius, I owe you a beer). These hand built guitar and bass amplifiers are a range conceived and built in France by No Madd.
Nomad, get it? Go where you want.
I love the idea and they look either crazy or stunning depending on your taste. I really like the look of them myself. You can either get a combo or a head and speaker setup. Each one features a very robust solar panel on the top that soaks up daylight and charges up the internal battery. The company state other website that even a light source other than the sun will charge up their amps. Play back time apparently depends on how much bass content is in your sound, as the lower the frequencies the more energy they use up. Which kind of makes sense when you think about it, as low waves are full of energy.
So say goodbye to being tethered to a power socket and feel good about your carbon footprint impact on the planet.
Each amp is custom built by hand and there is around a one month waiting time for completion. They can even make something bespoke and work on the design elements for you as well.
I’m really impressed and had often wondered how that cyber desert punk guitar player out of Mad Max Fury Road was amplifying his guitar on that truck, racing across the sand and now I know!
