With the GE150 Max and the GE150 Plus, Mooer is extending its GE150 series. Its first iteration came out in 2019. Since then, their multi-effects range has been steadily growing. The two new models each also include a second variant that includes a built-in battery. Let’s compare.

Mooer GE150 Max: Built For The Stage

The Mooer GE150 Max is the larger of the two new models. It’s designed for players who want maximum flexibility in a floorboard. The multi-effect packs 55 amp models and 170 effects, plus an 80-second looper. It also includes a drum machine and a metronome, so you get everything from practice tools to live performance essentials.

The GE150 Max’s 3.5″ touchscreen makes the effect easy to navigate. But if you just want to jam and play, its eight multifunction footswitches and the included expression pedal make controlling and changing your patches, looper, and effects without having to go through menus a breeze. There are also plenty of connectivity options, including stereo jacks, balanced XLR outputs with ground lift, USB-C for recording and editing, an AUX input, and a headphone jack.

It’s available at Thomann* for $213 / £192 / €218. There is also a battery-powered version, the GE150 Max Li, with a 2000 mAh battery, available for $245 / £221 / €251*.

Mooer GE150 Plus: Compact and Simple

Compared to the GE150 Max, the GE150 Plus trims things down slightly for those who prefer a smaller footprint. The compact multi-effect still carries the same 55 amps, 170 effects, looper, and drum machine, however. Its 2.8″ touch screen and three multi-function footswitches help keep it smaller, but also make it a little less comfortable to use on bright stages.

Preset memory tops out at 198 slots (slightly fewer than the Max’s 200), and while you lose the balanced XLR outputs, the core sound engine and editing features remain the same. Like its sibling, there is also a battery-powered version: the GE150 Plus Li, which allows you to play anywhere, untethered.

You can get GE150 Plus at Thomann* for $159 / £143 / €163, while the battery-powered GE150 Plus Li costs $170 / £153 / €174*.

Key Differences between GE150 Max and Plus

In comparison, the GE150 Max looks to be the better choice for live performers who need more foot control and full connectivity for stage setups. On the other hand, the GE150 Plus seems to be aimed at players who want the same sounds and tools in a smaller package. Also, the Max’s XLR outputs and larger screen make it feel more ‘gig-rig ready’, while the Plus excels as a lighter, simpler unit that can easily handle practice, recording and small gigs.

Ultimately, both versions share Mooer’s recently updated MNRS modeling engine and a wide range of effects, so the choice comes down to control and connectivity. If maximum stage power is what you’re after, the GE150 Max or Max Li is the obvious choice. However, if portability and simplicity are more important, the GE150 Plus or Plus Li gives you the same sonic core in a smaller, more affordable box.
