Dave Mustaine of Megadeth is auctioning off a whole load of his equipment! Amongst the horde of guitars he’s selling off are toured instruments and one-off prototypes. This could be your chance to own some truly unique pieces – and help Dave out at the same time…
Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine: Auctioning rock history
The Megadeth frontman has had a rough time recently, having been diagnosed with throat cancer that have forced him to cancel world tours while he grapples with his illness. Dave Mustaine is a living legend and many of his fans will be super-excited at the opportunity to own one of his guitars and help him out at the same time.
Follow my link at the bottom of this article to go straight to the Reverb auction page to bid for some of Dave’s gear.
I have a lot, a lot, a lot of gear. I’ve got a lot of double-neck guitars, I’ve got a lot of prototype stuff. I’ve got absolutely killer collector’s item stuff for the right guy. For me, my job is to put everything I can into this guitar so that when it gets put into somebody else’s hands, I can say ‘This is the guitar that wrote ‘Holy Wars.’ – Dave Mustaine
Holy Guitar Collection
Dave Mustaine struggles with his own legacy. He always sees guitarists buried with their instruments, but he himself “does not want to die but live forever.” That’s why he is selling a total of 150 pieces of equipment. Some are extremely collectable guitars, like the one that he wrote Holy Wars on, a classic track from the Megadeth’s Rust in Peace album. If you’re a Medadeth fan, that’s the one you’d want, right?
Dave goes on to say:
“I have always believed when it comes down to memorabilia with a band—especially instruments—I want to pass this onto people. I want them to be able to have something that I had … When I die, I don’t want a guitar in my coffin. Some of these guys want to be buried with stuff—I don’t want to die. I want to live forever.”
Prototypes & Signatures
Among the guitars being auctioned are a lot of double-necks, signatures and prototypes like the “1987 Dean Dave Mustaine Signature Holy Grail V 2007 Signature Silver V”. But there are also amps like the AX FX (with tour presets still loaded onto them!) and even gear like power distributors, including the Furman PL-8 Power Conditioner. So there might be something here for you, even if you’re a bit strapped for cash.
Dave Mustaine is a bit of a legend and we at Gearnews hope he manages to make some decent money from the sale of this equipment. I am sure his medical bills will be ridiculously high. Listen to him talk about the auction in the video below.
