Since its introduction in 2014, the Silver Bullet has gained a reputation as a super-versatile stereo bus/line/mic amplifier that serves up generous portions of ‘mojo’ for modern, DAW-based studios. With twin topology (A and N) ‘Mojo Amps’, which you may combine any way you like, and a tone-shaping EQ section, the first Silver Bullet found its way into many tracking and mixing setups. The second generation, which Louder Than Liftoff has just announced, builds on this legacy, but adds even more options for injecting analog flavor into your tracks and mixes.

Mojo A, N and C

Like the predecessor, the Silver Bullet mk2 is a stereo bus/line/mic amplifier designed for tracking and mixing. It offers the same array of ‘A’ (API) and ’N’ (Neve) Mojo amps inspired by classic American and British consoles, which can be used in any combination. But look closely at the panel and you’ll spot a third amp labeled ‘Mojo C’, which can be activated via a push button and adjusted using the C-DRV and C-MIX knobs. This corresponds to an expansion slot for Colour ‘analog plug-in modules’ or stereo Mojo Amp modules of your choice. The Silver Bullet mk2 comes pre-configured with HITMAKER 4000 Colour modules, but you can swap these out for a different ‘analog plug-in’ to match your tonal preferences.

The EQ has also been overhauled. The ‘Tight’ section for cleaning up the low end now offers a choice of a 25 Hz high pass filter or a 50 Hz Butterworth filter. And the Baxandall Tone EQ features a dedicated knob for the Air band.

At the back, the Silver Bullet mk2 offers mic, track and mix inputs (two channels each) and stereo track and mix outputs. The inserts now have dedicated, balanced send and return jacks, so you can do away with those Y cables.

The Louder Than Liftoff Silver Bullet mk2 looks like a solid upgrade for an already very versatile device. With the addition of Colour modules, you can drive up the ‘mojo’ even further and customize the sound to your liking.
