The popular Boss RE-20 has been around for a few years now. But over the last week, pedal addicts have been discussing a new leaked Boss RE-2 Space Echo, a more compact version which was spotted for sale on eBay.

This non-WazaCraft Boss pedal was spotted for sale on eBay. Called the Boss RE-2 Space Echo, it appears to be a more compact version of the popular RE-20 dual pedal from Boss, which itself is a modelled version of the classic Roland Space Echo. The pedal in the auction has a serial number that indicates October 2021, which is probably about right for a 2022 worldwide release, as they would need to build them in large batches first.

Fake?

We took a closer look at the pictures and checked the statements on the net, and are quite sure that the pedal exists. As it is photographed, there seem to have been no image processing in the game. But we can’t say whether there really is a RE-2 in it. The mere fact that it is officially sold on eBay by a seemingly reputable shop, is not a single pedal, and that 15 pieces have already been sold, raises questions. Though it now turns out that all the sales have been cancelled and refunded. According to some statements on the net, this year is also the effect’s 50th anniversary. Definitely one more reason for a release in 2022.

However, some people on the net say that it is a relabelled Tera Echo. But the three stacked potentiometers aren’t something you have on the Tera Echo pedal. Also of interest is the slide switch on the back next to the power connection. We only know of these from Waza Craft models.

RE-20 Successor?

Boss also needs a successor to the RE-20, which it has not reproduced for some time. The original dual pedal had massive tone suck issues when in bypass, so this new compact version will hopefully resolve that problem.
