Although it sounds like a book shelf at Ikea, Skaka is a virtual sampler instrument meant to make your songs groove. While the VSTi does contain a motherload of shaker percussions, the more interesting part is its ability to make those samples groove in time with your tune. And, of course, it’s a given that you can shape and bend all these percussion sounds to your heart’s desires!

Klevgränd Skaka – more than shaker samples

Skaka has twelve slots to accommodate the instruments you choose from among eight types of shaker percussion sounds. They are egg, shaker, tambourine, caxixi, single shot, ghungroos, calabash, and seeds. You can set them in motion with the built-in pattern generator, which has several parameters for timing, round robins, pitch and velocity. Coming in at the end of the chain is the obligatory effects section, which encompasses a reverb (including room simulation) and a high shelf filter that helps attenuate or increase the high frequency content.

Klevgränd Skaka - sequencer

Klevgränd Skaka – the sequencer.

Deceptively simple on the surface, Skaka lets you get deep and complicated with how the instruments are played. The sequencer provides full control over shuffle/swing amount, advanced humanizing, an internal awareness of the difference in how in and out shakes sound, grid division (triplets/quintuplets/septuplets), micro-timing, and polyrhytms. All of this is meant to get Skaka closer to how an actual live percussionist would sound playing along to your music. And if you are after a quick fix, the plug-in ships with close to 200 patterns suitable for many genres and styles.
