Plug-in maker Kiive Audio released a pair of analog emulation plug-ins: S-Quick Strip and Distinct. The former emulates a Neve console channel strip and the latter replicates the distortion unit of the Overstayer modular channel. So these are a path towards getting luxury sounds out of two affordable plug-ins. Very nice!

Kiive Audio S-Quick Strip and Distinct!

S-Quick Strip and Distinct! are two new products from Kiive Audio. Both emulate well-known and interesting hardware from past decades in recording studio history. The S-Quick Channel Strip plug-in emulates the channel strip of an unspecified Neve console. This includes most or all of the sections and features you’d expect to find, such as the input area (with gain, polarity, saturation, and high-pass filter), a two-band equalizer, a compressor, a transient shaper, auto gain, saturation mix control, sidechain controls for the compressor, and controls for the input and output volume. The additional display of peak metering and the equalizer curve is very welcome, too.

Distinct! is a virtual replica of the saturation unit from the Overstayer Modular Channel. This means its sound character is rich in overtones for audio and instrument tracks. From subtle warmth to total audio obliteration, anything is possible. The signal flow is something like this: initially, the audio goes through high-pass and low-pass filters for broad shaping before it hits saturation. The input and output volume, as well as the degree of saturation can be adjusted. There are three types of distortion available (Odd, Even, Digit). An additional Saturation parameter distorts the sound further, and a second high-pass filter lets you cut out any resulting low frequency build-ups. There is also an auto gain function as well as peak and gain reduction metering.
