The latest James Hetfield signature model is a Special Edition baritone limited to only 500 guitars and sold under the LTD brand.
ESP LTD Snakebyte SE Baritone
The new James Hetfield ESP LTD Snakebyte SE Baritone is tuned to a low B and comes with a set neck at a scale length of 27″. The tuning is B-E-A-D-F#-B.
I wrote about this guitar back in July when it was just a rumour. Now it is finally here and in my opinion it looks great. Another thing I love about it this is that it’s been sold as an LTD instrument, making it more affordable than an ESP Custom Shop guitar. That means that fans can afford and enjoy this without risking personal bankruptcy!
The guitar has all the usual high-quality hardware we have come to expect from the LTD range. It comes factory fitted with a set of EMG JH Het Set active pickups, a set of LTD locking tuners and a TonePros locking bridge and matching stop bar.
What you really notice straight away, is the See Thru Purple Sunburst applied over a figured quilted maple top. It’s a very luxurious look, I think. The hardware is all blacked out, complementing the effect. Both the main body and the U-shaped, three-piece, set neck are made from mahogany. The Macassar ebony fingerboard is loaded with 22 X Jumbo frets and sports simple dot markers with Jame’s Snakebyte logo at the twelfth fret position.
Only 500 of these guitars are being made available. Each comes with a Certificate Of Authenticity and is shipped in an ESP hard case. The price, considering the Hetfield connection and use of top quality hardware, is very reasonable.
I’m a big fan of the quality of ESP and its budget LTD range. This is probably a bit of a bargain for what promises to be a well-made instrument.
If you are a fan of Metallica and Mr Hetfield, or feel the need for a purple baritone beast, you may want to get one ordered sharpish. I am sure they will sell out quickly.
