The new Hotone MP-100 Ampero multi-effects could be the company’s most advanced to date. It’s replete with more than 240 effects and 120 amp and cab models and appears to pack some serious punch. The question now is: How will it fare against Line 6 offering such as the Helix LT?

This relatively compact multi-effect and amp simulation pedal manages to squeeze in a lot of processing power into its sleek black casing. The Ampero MP-100 is powered by Hotone’s Comprehensive Dynamic Circuit Modeling High Definition (CDCMHD) and Field Impulse Response Enhancement (FIRE) technologies.

Hotone hopes these two proprietary systems will make the pedal dynamic and complex and make the whole thing feel more like a real guitar amp setup. The 120 amp and cab models with virtual mics could be great for those that need variety. This might be especially useful if you play in cover bands perhaps.

The Ampero includes 240 effects derived from the company’s XTOMP and Hotone libraries. These virtual pedals can have up to nine effects modules loaded at once! Add all those effects to the 120 amp and cab models and this could be a good solution for players on a budget.

All this would be a pretty decent proposition by itself. But Hotone has also added a looper that can record overdubs of up to 120 seconds. Plus a drum machine with over 100 patterns as well!

Control

The Ampero has an expression pedal, four footswitches and three assignable knobs and should be easy enough to use live.

Connectivity

On the I/O side, the Ampero MP-100 has  1/4-inch stereo outputs, balanced XLR outputs, a MIDI input, a headphone output and an Aux In. A USB port is included, too, letting you use it as an audio interface for your DAW and providing a way of managing your effect settings.

No official price has been announced yet, but it is expected to come in at around USD 300 which means it will be perfect for many players looking for a cheaper option than, say, a Line 6 Helix. I don’t believe it will be better than the Line 6 Helix range, but if you are on a limited budget it could well be a viable alternative.

RRP – TBC
