The Heritage Audio RAM 1000 desktop monitor controller fills the gap between the larger RAM 2000 and Baby RAM and offers the features most often needed in home recording setups or mid-sized studios. There are two sets of balanced inputs and outputs each, which are easily accessible via buttons on the panel. An input level meter helps keep the levels in check.

For added versatility, input 1 offers 1/4”-XLR combo sockets, while input 2 (TRS) lets you choose between +4 dBu and -10 dBV. Output 1 (XLR) can be decoupled from the volume control for use as a recording output, while output 2 (TRS) is purely for monitoring. You can select all inputs and outputs simultaneously. In addition, there’s a high-quality headphone output with independent volume control.

Furthermore, a built-in Bluetooth module offers additional connectivity for your media players or smart devices. According to Heritage Audio, the RAM 1000 supports the latest codecs (APTX, APTX LL, APTX HD, SBC, AAC) to ensure the highest possible quality.

Stepped volume knob

The beautiful Marconi-type rotary volume switch is a signature element of the RAM series. On the RAM 1000, the passive attenuator offers 24 steps in 3 dB increments. According to Heritage Audio, the rotary switch offers superior stereo imaging compared to the stereo potentiometers used in many other monitor controllers. The volume knob is accompanied by Mono, Mute, and Dim buttons.

Although Heritage Audio points out that the audio path is passive, the RAM 1000 does require power via a USB-C connector on the back to operate its other features.

Offering just the right amount of flexibility, the Heritage Audio RAM 1000 seems a good match for the needs of many smaller studios. If you’re looking to step up your monitoring game with console-grade hardware, check this one out.
