BLOCK Series
The heart of the Harley Benton BLOCK series consists of four compact Class-D amplifiers – the BLOCK-200, BLOCK-300, BLOCK-600 and BLOCK-800 – all of which are based on a common design principle: maximum power with minimum weight.
The BLOCK-200 delivers a hefty 200 watts at a mere 1.7 kg, while the flagship BLOCK-800 boasts 800 watts and weighs in at a mere 3.55 kg. This makes even the largest models in the series effortlessly portable – a far cry from the heavy tube or transistor behemoths of yesteryear.
Operation is equally straightforward on all four tops: EQ controls for tone shaping and an integrated compressor are standard. A high/low pad switch at the input ensures compatibility with both active and passive basses.
A DI XLR output with a pre/post switch is available for direct recording in the studio or in a live setting. Additional connections include: effects loop, AUX input, headphone output, and dual Speakon connectors.
Five Matching Bass Cabinets
The BLOCK tops are complemented by five matching bass cabinets, available in various speaker configurations: 1×12, 1×15, 2×10, 2×12 and 4×10. With this selection, there’s a suitable cabinet for every individual preference.
Three of the five speakers (VH models) can be positioned both vertically and horizontally – a practical detail that proves to be a real advantage on tight stages or in unusual room layouts.
The two V models are designed exclusively for vertical operation. Each speaker is also equipped with an RF driver and can handle the very low frequencies. A frequency response of 28–39 Hz up to 17.4 kHz makes this possible.
The handy and robust metal handles on the sides are also a welcome feature. They should be easy to load in and out of venues.
Price & Availability
Well done! The Harley Benton BLOCK series is impressive. The BLOCK-200 starts at just $95/£86/€99, and the larger BLOCK-800 is available for $288/£261/€299. The matching BLOCK speaker cabinets are also very attractively priced, making for an affordable bass rig for all.
There is a lot to love here, and you could even get one of the heads as a lightweight backup for gigs at this price point.
