This week on Guitar Gear Gems we have some interesting new ways to use Lego to make a fuzz pedal, news about a one-off Gibson Adam Jones model and Orange decided to enter the world of spicy condiments. And Rob Scallon has left Chapman Guitars, jumped ship to Schecter, plus Facebook spots a new Greeny Les Paul…
Guitar Gear Gems this week’s highlights
This week in the world of Guitar Gear Gems, Orange Amplification launched their own hot sauce, perfect for spicing up boring riffs or adding to your pizza. Called the Super Natural Hot Sauce and is billed as a “vegan-friendly, tangy, fruity, hot condiment with a medium to hot level of spice.”
Maybe you could pop one in the case with your Micro Terror * and keep things nice and spicy for your next jam?

Rob Scallon jumps ship from Chapman Guitars
Rob Scallon has moved to Schecter and they have created not one, not two, but three new signature models! Plus, you can get all three as left-handed versions as well. You can opt for the 6-string Rob Scallon C-1, the 7-string C7 Multiscale and finally the 8-string C-8 Multiscale.
All three come in a Dark Roast finish over a swamp ash body. Each model is fitted with a pair of Schecter Diamond ’78 Rob Scallon humbucking pickups. Each guitar is a thru-neck design with a mahogany three-piece neck that has carbon fibre reinforcement rods and an ebony fretboard with 24 jumbo frets.
Adam Jones exclusive Gibson
Tool’s Adam Jones revealed on his Instagram account a gift from Gibson. He has just returned from touring Europe and they gave him a special one-off Murphy Lab aged double-neck Silverburst Gibson EDS-1275. Along with two pictures of the Gibson EDS-1275, there is a video of Jones looking through a Certificate of Authenticity in the Instagram Story.
We don’t all get gifts like these from Gibson, but if you do fancy some Silverburst action, then the Gibson Adam Jones signature model is available currently.
Hammett to get a new Greeny signature?
Zero details yet, but it looks like we may well see a new Gibson Kirk Hammett Greeny Les Paul Standard model soon if this photo is to be believed. There have already been a few versions of the guitar made by Gibson, as it was owned by Peter Green and Gary Moore previously.
The image below popped up on the Facebook Gibson Les Paul group and is watermarked by Ross Halfin. Halfin is in the photo next to Kirk and they both are holding a Greeny, so could we see one soon? Or is it just a one-off model made for Halfin?
Since Halfin is Metallica’s official photographer it is feasible that he has his own one, plus the case at their feet bears his name after Hammetts’.
Nothing Else Matters…
Hammett managed to fluff the intro to Nothing Else Matters this weekend playing said guitar, so just even the pros with all the gear can get it wrong sometimes. You can check that performance out below. Kirk drops to the floor, apologises and starts again, whilst keeping the audience on his side.
Lego Fuzz Pedal
YouTube channel Mykola MrHardGuitar has just shared. a great video on how to build a fuzz pedal from scratch using the kid’s favourite Lego.
Step by Step
Undoubtedly, what’s great is the step by step tutorial on how to build a basic fuzz pedal and then the process of creating a Lego enclosure to house the fuzz. It is a neat way to learn how to build pedals and one that I think could help many players get into effect pedal building. If you want to explore making stompboxes, then this could be a great start for you.
If you aren’t brave enough to wield a hot soldering iron just yet, then maybe you could just convert an existing fuzz pedal and make a Lego enclosure for it instead. Below are a few budget fuzz units that could be easily converted.
Behringer SF300 Super Fuzz
Harley Benton MiniStomp Silly Fuzz
Tone City Fuxx Fuzz
Check out the video below and build your own fuzz.
