Hudson Broadcast AP-II

The new Hudson Broadcast AP-II signature dual preamp pedal for Ariel Posen also was announced and added some nice updates to the previous version with some great new features. Now with two preamp circuits and more flexible input and output routing, it is certainly one to check out.

Dual Circuits

The first circuit, equipped with a silicon transistor and transformer, offers the warm, darker tones of the original Broadcast-AP. The second circuit offers a stark contrast; by removing the transformer and incorporating a germanium transistor.

Send/Return

Plus, it now includes a built-in send and return set of jacks at the rear of the pedal. The pedal’s internal routing connects the silicon section to the germanium section unless the send or return jacks are used.

Looks like this already very popular preamp pedal just got a very nice update.

MSRP – GBP 269

Included Effects

Built-in effects include a studio-style compressor pedal, a warm overdrive, a high-gain transparent drive, and an amp-like tremolo pedal. Along with a tape echo-style delay pedal and a high-quality studio-grade reverb. Plus, the nine-band graphic equalizer, tuner, and metronome.

It offers some nice takes on classic Morgan amps, which are boutique models and therefore pretty expensive. Therefore, at only $99 it could be a useful addition to your DAW recording setup, etc

MSRP – EUR 99

Magnatone Slash SL-100

Another notable late release at the tail end of 2023 was the Slash SL-100 from Magnatone, the signature amp head which caused some controversy when it was first announced in November of last year. Many people thought Slash was leaving Marshall Amplification, though he eventually put out an official statement and put the record straight.

After all, he is Slash so he will work with two amp major brands, be a global brand ambassador for Gibson, and play BC Rich guitars. Because he can.

Two Gain Voices

It is a single-channel tube monster powered by four EL34 power tubes and another quartet of 12AX7s in the preamp section. It comes with dual gain settings, one for a mid-’80s Marshall Jubilee tone and the other for a more vintage ’60s vibe. These are accessible via a slider switch for selecting the two gain modes, along with Presence, Bass, Middle, and Treble dials, and a master volume control.

4×12

The amp also features a tube-buffered send and return for effects. This 100-watt all-tube head is currently up for preorder and priced at $4,899 with a matching 4×12 cabinet, loaded with Celestion Vintage 30s and constructed of Baltic birch, available for an additional $2,699.

MSRP – USD 4899 for the head and USD 2699 cab
