This week on Guitar Gear Gems we check out the new Fender Custom Shop Waylon Jennings model which costs $25k and the Billy Gibbons Super Fifty-Nine M80 limited run amp. Plus, the new Mythos Pedals’ The Fate analogue BBD chorus/vibrato modulation effect.
Fender Custom Shop Waylon Jennings
This Fender Waylon Jennings signature model is a recreation of the late Country star’s leather-bound 1954 Telecaster and was built by the Fender Custom Shop.
It is certainly an eye-catching design and the tooled leather is centre stage of the overall design.
It was part of the release which also included a new Waylon Jenning Phaser pedal, but this guitar is a lot more expensive and a highly limited run. Aimed at collectors and fans of Waylon Jennings.
These are built by Fender Masterbuilder Dave Brown and have a two-piece ash body, plus a quartersawn maple neck and a set of Custom Shop Hand-Wound ’50/’51 Blackguard pickups.
The Devil is in the Detail
Other attention to detail includes a set of Schaller M6 tuners with a Low E Banjo tuner. It comes with a custom western tooled case, a custom tooled leather strap, and a Certificate of Authenticity.
MSRP – $25k
Magnatone is only making six of these Billy Gibbons Super Fifty-Nine M80 models available worldwide, and they are priced at a whopping £6,999 each.
These will no doubt be snapped up by collectors, as they are so limited. Though, I guess they will sound really nice.
The amp combines the Super Fifty-Nine MkI and MkII models, using a pair of EL34 tubes and with 45 watts of Class AB power. The gain stages of the MkI and MkII are also foot-switchable, making it pretty versatile.
If you can get one I don’t doubt that it will be a lot of fun to play through and will probably sound glorious.
Mythos Pedals The Fate
Based around an MN3207 BBD chip, The Fate is Mythos Pedals’ latest analogue modulation pedal and offers classic three-dimensional chorusing effects.
Chorus & Vibrato
The pedal has controls for Rate and Depth, along with a switch for Chorus and Vibrato modes.
Plus, The Fates also has a JFET buffered bypass input stage that makes the pedal run quieter and also pushes the signal for what they describe as a “sweet output bump and EQ voicing”.
This BBD analogue chorus effect has all the swirly tones you’d expect from classic 80’s effects and sounds very sweet in the video demo.
MSRP – GBP 185
