Everyone into music production needs a well-featured audio analyzer at some point . And if you have not decided on any, and are on a Mac, you should have a look at Aura by Aurchitect Audio Software. Here’s why:

Aura is a sort of modular audio analyzing software that’s loaded as an AU effect in your DAW. By choosing different meter sets, you can adapt the plug-in to your needs.

Currently, the meters include Spectral, Needle, Bar and History, all configurable for special use. Spectral visualises frequencies and phase position (which can also be exported as CSV or FRD); Needle is for VU, BBC or LU metering with True Peak; Bar is for Peak, RMS and Co, and History covers everything that needs a temporal representation, such as the amplitude of the oscillation, correlation, etc.

There will be more meters later with upcoming versions. The following three updates will be available: text, goniometer and oscilloscope. This will make for one uniquely flexible and adjustable metering set. Aura reads not only from the respective audio track, but optionally also directly from hardware units. So it’s pretty much good to go in every setup.

However, Aura is a macOS exclusive as it uses Apple’s Metal graphics API for presentation. This means we could see an iOS version of the analyzer in the future.

Price and availability

Aura is available as an AUv3 plug-in for macOS. It’s on sale now and costs USD 129. All future updates will be free.
