Erica Synths EDU DIY FM Drum
Erica Synths has to be the busiest synth manufacturer on the planet. It seems like every week the company is dropping some incredible new device or module. Recently, we had the Steampipe and Echolocator. We’ve barely even had time to let our wallets cool off, and now here comes the EDU DIY FM Drum, a new percussion module.
Part of its educational series of kits, EDU DIY FM Drum is a Eurorack module that “fuses analog punch with metallic tones of FM synthesis,” according to the company. The module, developed alongside Moritz Klein, can do all manner of percussion from kicks and toms to metallic clanks.
EDU DIY FM Drum is a kit, so you have to put it together yourself, but it’s aimed at beginners and will also teach you something about electronic circuits on the way. As with the other modules in the series, it’s also affordable at only €75.
Befaco Oneiroi Pod
We declared the Befaco Oneiroi one of the best modules of Superbooth24. And while the drone-oriented synth voice is still available, non-Eurorack noise merchants so far have had to go without. No longer, as it’s now available in a standalone format.
Called the Oneiroi Pod, this new package puts the module into a 42HP desktop box. It includes a built-in power supply with four Eurorack power headers and a power brick, making it a mini, self-contained Eurorack system in its own right.
The Oneiroi Pod is available in both pre-assembled and DIY kit versions. Befaco will be at Superbooth25 this year, no doubt showing it off. We’re excited to see what else they’ll have on display.
Free Hydrasynth Editor
A madman going by the name of Synthmad has just released a free Hydrasynth editor. Yes, if you own one of the many different iterations of ASM’s Hydrasynth, you now have access to a web-based and absolutely free Hydrasynth editor.
I don’t have a Hydrasynth (much to my eternal regret), but from what people are saying on Reddit, it works pretty well. Just connect your synth and away you go, editing patches.
The developer has acknowledged that a web browser might not be the most robust option for an editor, but he wanted to get it up and running while he continues to work on a plugin version. Exciting stuff.

Vaemi Kraakdoos (Cracklebox), Atari Punk Console and Mini Mixer
Turkish company Vaemi specializes in unique, small-scale instruments and Eurorack modules. It recently released a trio of tiny boxes, the Mini Mixer, Kraakdoos (Cracklebox), and Atari Punk Console.
The Mini Mixer is a mono, four-channel analog mixer with 3.5mm input and output jacks. Each channel features a saturation circuit, and it has a specially designed jack input for the 4th channel. Leave that fourth jack unoccupied, and the master output will feed back into the first three inputs. Mute all the channels for self-oscillation.
Kraakdoos, aka the Cracklebox, is a standalone experimental electronic musical instrument first developed by Michel Waisvisz in the 1970s and is played via its touch-sensitive surfaces.
Lastly, the Atari Punk Console features a circuit design with two oscillators that modulate each other, allowing you to create melodic arpeggios. The oscillators are also light-sensitive with LDR (Light Dependent Resistor) sensors, making it possible to modify the frequencies of the oscillators with light levels.
All three devices are available in DIY kit and pre-assembled options. Prices are as follows:

Rides In The Storm SED-CSM
We first told you about the Rides In The Storm SED-CSM back in 2023. The company’s flagship Eurorack module, SED-CSM is a compact semi-modular synthesizer shrunk down into Eurorack form.
An analog synth voice, it features two oscillators with three selectable waveforms (pulse, saw and triangle), three sub-oscillators, and a wavefolder on oscillator one. There are two analog LFOs, two loopable ADSR envelopes, a ring modulator, a 24dB/Oct lowpass filter, a white noise generator, and more.
Although Rides In The Storm was shooting for a summer 2023 release, it’s finally come out. Rides In The Storm will be back at Superbooth this year as well. Keep an eye out for more from them in May.
