I’ve been using the Clarett interfaces in several locations this past year and currently I’m very lucky to be getting my head around the latest Red 8Pre. These high-level interfaces from Focusrite are truly great-sounding units which offer some of the best specs around. The second generation of the Scarlett range are also proving popular for their good performance and price point, especially given the manufacturer’s renown.

I’m really pleased to see this app released from Focusrite as I can see it aiding my workflow. There’s nothing more annoying when tracking someone and having to toggle between your DAW and the interface app for talkback, click track or mix settings between each take. At least now these settings can be to hand on a separate screen, allowing for more fluid and console-like operation. Focusrite are also badging the app for artist use as a personal mixer when in the recording booth. That’s not bad considering how much dedicated personal mixers can cost.

The iOS Control App is compatible with the Scarlett 6i6 (2nd gen.) and up, including the Clarett and Red interface ranges. I particularly like the connectivity, which is simple to use as it uses the host machine and lets any number of iOS devices on the same WiFi network talk to each other. Security also plays a role. as the iOS device must be approved by the host controller. My only complaint would be that there’s no Android version.
