No Floyd!
I’m already a massive fan of the EVH Wolfgang models, so these new affordable hardtail models are a great addition to the range. Sometimes, you want a guitar without a Floyd Rose, and so these are perfect for that scenario.
This modification promises a fuss-free playing experience, appealing to guitarists who prefer rock-solid tuning stability and straightforward string changes over the dive-bombing capabilities of a floating tremolo.
Shred Specifications
While many appreciate the high-performance features of guitars equipped with Floyd Roses, such as fast necks, compound radius fingerboards, and high-output pickups, the new Wolfgang WG Standard TOM focuses on simplicity and reliability.
It retains the core DNA of the original Eddie Van Halen Wolfgang platform, including the distinctive 3×3 headstock, but offers a more traditional bridge setup.
The EVH Wolfgang WG Standard TOM boasts shred-friendly specifications. These include a comfortable 12” to 16” compound radius fretboard with 22 jumbo frets and a graphite-reinforced baked maple neck.
A key feature carried over from the standard Wolfgang models is the direct-mount humbucker pairing. These uncovered, EVH Wolfgang high-output pickups are designed to capture the resonant vibrations of the basswood body, delivering a lively tone with excellent sustain.
Players can shape their sound using the black Speed volume and tone knobs, which include a treble bleed circuit to maintain clarity when the volume is rolled back.
Verdict
I’m a fan of these new Wolfgang WG Standard TOM models, and I think the price is very competitive for such a well-thought-out modern guitar design.
