Eventide’s H3000 seems to be an inexhaustible source of effects, which the company is releasing as a steady stream of plug-ins. The newest family member is Undulator, a tremolo full of “magical” modulation. Like the other H9 series plug-ins, Undulator is available for Windows, Mac and iOS. Eventide has pledged to donate the proceeds from the desktop version to charity.

Tremolo effects are sometimes seen as boring. It’s just volume modulation after all, right? Well, Eventide’s Undulator will certainly do that if you wish, but it can also do a whole lot more.

Like many other tremolos, Undulator lets you set the modulation speed and depth and adjust the modulation shape. It’ll also sync to the host tempo if desired, or you can set the tempo using the tap button.

The feedback and delay section is where it gets interesting; Eventide would probably say that this is where the magic starts. You can add slightly detuned delays with the spread control, adding another dimension to the signal. The feedback knob accentuates those delays and can even produce infinite loops, Eventide says.

Undulator also features a secondary LFO with multiple shapes, which can modulate the speed and depth of the primary LFO. Like the other H9 series plug-ins, including CrushStation, MicroPitch and Crystals, Undulator also offers a ribbon control, which lets you morph between two settings. All in all, this creates a web of modulation that seems to be capable of effects far beyond the scope of a traditional tremolo.

Eventide donates the proceeds

Eventide says that it’ll donate 100% of the proceeds from the desktop version of Undulator to the Equal Justice Initiative & NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund. The company says that it embraces diversity and wants to take a stance against systemic racism and violence.
