Erica Synths has announced a new drum module for their Pico range. It’s called the Pico Drum 2 and features 8 drum algorithms for synthesising a wide range of drums and percussive noises.
Pico Drum 2
It’s a simple enough idea. You have 8 synthesis algorithms designed to generate percussive noises. Each algorithm has three controllable parameters two of which can also be CV controlled. It has a single trigger input and a single audio output.
The differences from the original Pico Drums are that the original was all sampled based and actually had 2 trigger inputs to run two different sounds. So while the Pico 2 massively increases the sonic potential you are only getting one thing at a time…. so I guess you’ll need a handful of these ideally.
Algorithms include Pulse Drum, Fold Drum 1 & 2, Complex Pulse, Complex Sine, Space Snare, Noise Crush and Slap. The first two parameters vary depending on the algorithm but most commonly they are tuning and modulation. The third parameter is almost always Decay.
For control the first CV input is assignable through some button presses to any parameter. CV2 is assigned to the first parameter which also takes care of pitch. It does respond to 1v/oct if you plug a sequence into it.
The sound range is deliciously noisy and varied and you could definitely build a whole kit with a handful of Pico Drum 2s. Check out the sound demo below.
