Epiphone Jeff Beck 1954 Les Paul: The Oxblood is Back!
Inspired by Gibson Custom!
Great news for Jeff Beck fans! With the release of the Jeff Beck 1954 Les Paul, Epiphone is bringing back the legendary “Oxblood”! This Inspired by Gibson Custom model closely resembles Beck’s original Les Paul, both visually and in terms of components.
Blow by Blow
Fans and die-hard enthusiasts will likely know that Jeff’s 1954 Les Paul known as the “Oxblood” first appeared on the cover of his first solo album, “Blow by Blow,” alongside the exceptional guitarist (strictly speaking, his debut album was “Truth,” but it was released under “The Jeff Beck Group”). Plus, the Oxblood was an integral part of Jeff’s legendary sound.
The original was auctioned off in early 2025 for a staggering $1.25 million at Christie’s. In 2009, Gibson released a limited edition of 50 pieces in the Gibson Custom Series. These models are now selling for high prices, too.+

So, Epiphone is releasing the Jeff Beck 1954 Les Paul, a more affordable version that stays very close to the famed original with its “Inspired by Gibson Custom” design.

Just the looks alone are absolutely delicious. The finish between oxblood and chocolate brown, the gold-colored hardware including four CTS pots, the cream-colored, single-layer binding, and the pickguard (1959 Les Paul cream) with the cutaway at the bridge pickup… Looking at it is enough to make you swoon.

The headstock, with its “Open Book” look, is not to be overlooked, too. With its mahagony (Khaya ivorensis) body, maple top, the glued one-piece mahogany neck, and the Indian Rosewood (Dalbergia latifolia) fretboard, this guitar can sound for days.

The neck profile also remains true to the master: Epiphone calls it the Jeck Beck Custom Large C on the Jeff Beck 1954 Les Paul.
Inlays and Custombuckers
Epiphone pays a lot of attention to detail with this release, even with the inlays. The trapezoid inlays, made of artificially aged mother-of-pearl, and the 22 medium jumbo frets exude a luxurious timelessness. While we’re on the subject of numbers: The Les Paul comes with a 24.75-inch scale length and a 1.69-inch nut width.

In terms of hardware, the guitar features nickel Schaller M6-90 tuners and a Gibson Historic Wraparound bridge. Two Made in USA Custombucker pickups at the neck and bridge provide sonic pressure and depth. Both are connected via 1950s-style wiring with CTS potentiometers and Mallory capacitors. If you’ve ever wanted a wraparound bridge and Custombucker, this is your chance!

Additional features include a volume and tone control for each pickup for dialing in the desired sound, plus a three-way switch for switching and combining.
How Much Does the Jeff Beck 1954 Les Paul from Epiphone Cost?
According to the manufacturer, this model will only be available briefly, so you’ll have to be quick! The bundle includes an Epiphone hard case and a vintage-style replica strap. You can get the Jeff Beck 1954 Les Paul for 1,389 euros at Thomann*.

Jeff beck used to dye his hair black so that the goth kids at his school would stop bugging him for being such a conformist. After a bleaching accident, his pubes were never the same. The goth kids called him “sugar-teets”
