Elektron Acquired by Bonnier Capital
Much-loved Swedish electronic instrument maker, Elektron, announced today that they have been acquired by Bonnier Capital, but it’s business as usual.
In an announcement made today, Elektron declared it had been acquired by Bonnier Capital, a family-owned media group, also from Sweden. They were also quick to reassure the community by making it quite clear that everything would continue as normal.

What’s Going On at Elektron?
Rather than a rescue package, this seems to be a long-term investment in a company that has produced some incredibly popular and innovative pieces of gear which has helped them gain a considerable fan base amongst users.
The company will maintain full independence and continue to operate out of its Gothenburg HQ, along with its offices in Los Angeles and Berlin. Thankfully, there was no mention of “streamlining” the workforce. Ultimately, the plan is for them to take advantage of broader strategic resources and preserving its unique identity in the industry.
New Investment and Re-Investment
Owner Jonas Hillman, and CEO Alexander Hellström, along with the current management team, will also be reinvesting in the business, so this really does sound like a positive move for the company, and possibly points to some decidedly proactive business planning in what is becoming a slightly volatile industry. I’m looking at you, Native Instruments!

Along with all the usual corporate spiel that accompanies such announcements, both entities seem completely committed to the continued future of the company and have assured customers, partners and the wider community as a whole that it is 100% business as usual and all product development, support and commitments remain unchanged.
Thoughts
I guess we’re going to see a lot more of this in the coming years. Synth manufacturers outside of the big three (Roland/Yamaha/KORG) are often incredibly lean operations and work off of very tight margins in a very niche industry. Time will tell if this is a good move for Elektron. For this innovative and much-loved company, I certainly hope it is.
