We first saw the Erebus V3 at Superbooth last year and now Dreadbox has released a special edition version to match (presumably) the fabulous 1980s stylings of the Hypnosis multi-effects unit. It does look rather awesome.

Other than the paint the job this special edition is identical to the regular Erebus V3. I particularly like the cassette graphic on the Echo. Otherwise, this is the evolution of the classic Erebus analogue synthesizer offering duophonic sound from 3 interlinked oscillators. The first 2 do the regular business of building a tone and then the 3rd oscillator comes in and messes it all about in quite delicious ways. Other key features include a looping modulation envelope, an LFO and a multi-mode filter. The Echo on the end is really nice.

A lot of the internal connections are revealed on the sizable patch bay on the side. This includes Sample & Hold, white noise and a 3 point mult for spreading that control voltage around.

The only disappointment is that this special edition Erebus V3 is only available currently from Sweetwater. Hopefully, it will become more widely available as it’s the perfect companion to the Hypnosis.
