DinSync NC-V8 Acoustic Lathe
“What if I told you our next product wasn’t a synthesizer?”
DinSync may be best known for its recreations of classic gear like the TB-303 and TR-808. However, this cryptic statement appeared on its Instagram channel next to the image below of a turntable with some kind of contraption mounted above it. That, friends and neighbors, is an acoustic lathe, and you use it to cut dubplates. Meet the NC-V8 Acoustic Lathe.
DinSync NC-V8 Acoustic Lathe: Special Request
The DinSync NC-V8 Acoustic Lathe is a “near-perfect consumer phonograph recording solution based on modern affordable components and tuned to an acceptable high fidelity,” according to the company’s press release, as first published by SonicState.

DinSync is aiming to fill the gap in the market for home vinyl cutting. Indeed, when I wrote a story about it last year, I was surprised at just how few options there are on the market. Probably the best-known is the Teenage Engineering PO-80 Record Factory, but it’s also decidedly lo-fi. The DinSync NC-V8 Acoustic Lathe promises much higher quality.
DinSync NC-V8 Acoustic Lathe: Gantry Design
The NC-V8 has a gantry design, meaning that it sits across an existing high-torque turntable. It features a stereo cutting head that cuts the groove with a diamond stylus. It can also handle mono cutting with a tungsten stylus.
This is not a complete system, however, and you’ll need to supply a number of additional items to be able to press your own records. You will need a high-torque turntable, a sound source, a power amplifier for the cutting head, an equalizer, a diamond stylus, blank records, and additional static control measures.
This will require a considerable outlay, but DinSync is confident that a market exists for this kind of product, targeting people “who want to bring their own music to a direct tangible format, or the potential cutting engineer who wants to learn the art of cutting for a business.”
DinSync NC-V8 Acoustic Lathe: Test Cut
The video below is a test cut done by DinSync. “Cut at 33 rpm, diamond stylus, swarf removal household vacuum, track position inner groove,” they commented.
DinSync NC-V8 Acoustic Lathe: Price and Availability
DinSync will be showing its NC-V8 at Superbooth next week. Price is to be determined. The company is aiming to start selling in May or June of this year via its online webshop (link below).
