Dear Reality dearVR MIX is part of a series of plug-ins that’s meant to deliver optimal results while mixing with headphones. In addition to a change in the frequency response, all generated by the software, simulating virtual studio rooms is also key part of the puzzle.

DearVR MIX aims towards creating the ultimate environment for headphone mixing. The advantage: You don’t have to worry about whether your monitors are up to par, or if your room is acoustically optimal. If you are having an easier time creating mixes that translate and sound great on other systems, the plug-in does its job. However, this one only focuses on stereo productions. For multi-channel projects, you’ll have to look elsewhere.

dearVR Mix offers three virtual studios (Mix Room A, Mix Room B, Analytic Dry) where you can choose from five monitor positions (Mono Input, Mono Summed, Stereo, Stereo Wide). Six alternative environments are available for reference and double checks. In addition to the car (a mix checking essential), the choices include a club, home cinema, kitchen, living room, and a stadium. Understandable, who doesn’t want to hear their work echoing through an arena? With the Ambience and Focus sliders, you can make a few “changes” to the surroundings and adapt them to your preferences.

DearVR MIX compensates for the fact that every headphone has its own sound with the so-called SHC feature. The abbreviation stands for Spatial Headphone Compensation and ensures you’re listening to the “correct” sound on 44 common headphone models. You can find more information about the technology and the supported headphones here.
