Is it time to go DAW-less? The truth is, even if you still do most of your music creation in the box, having one or two hardware instruments can inject creativity into your workflow. Let’s check out some of the deals on electronic instruments that could easily fit into your studio setup.

Deals Of The Week: Up to 27% off Roland AIRA Compact Series

The AIRA Compact range of synths, drum machines, samplers, and effects has taken up the baton from the popular KORG volca series in many ways. It provides a very accessible way to start creating elecronic beat orientated music outside of your DAW. With the T-8 drum machine, for example, you have six drum voices with sounds from the famous TR-606, TR-808, and TR-909 drum machines.

What’s more, every instrument in the AIRA Compact Series has a built-in step sequencer that you can sync with other AIRA instruments or other hardware instruments to create your own DAW-less beat creation system. Within the AIRA series, you’ll also find a pair of versatile synths in the form of the S-1 Tweak Synth, inspired by the legendary SH-101, and the J-6 Chord Synth, inspired by the JUNO-60.

This gives you two distinct approaches for creating melodies with the leads and basslines that become central to your tracks. What’s more, the J-6 chord sequencer can be used to create chord progressions, which you can link to any polyphonic instrument via MIDI, including your favourite softsynths in your DAW.

Deals Of The Week: Up to 42% off KORG Synthesizers

Since back in the 1970s, KORG synth designs have endured and evolved, becoming intrinsic to so many styles of music over the years. On the analogue side, you can still find the MS-20 mini, a modern, compact recreation of the fabled monosynth that gave us classics like Mr Oizo’s Flatbeat.

In addition, KORG also built a range of synths inspired by the Swedish minimalist techno duo, Minilogue. These include the Monologue, the Minilogue, and the Minilogue XD synthesizers, which provide a flexible, groove-based approach to subtractive synthesis, which is ideal for electronic music and many other genres too.

In more recent years, KORG has also expanded its line of digital synths with impressive sound design capabilities. This range includes the Modwave MKII and Wavestate MKII wavetable synthesizers, as well as the opsix FM synth with its impressive six-operator sound creation platform.

Deals Of The Week: Up to 15% off Elektron Grooveboxes

Over the past 20 years, Elektron has become one of the instrument manufacturers that is more synonymous with electronic music than any other. Although the interfaces and workflow take a little bit of time to get used to, the instruments have very strong identities that have built up a cult-like following in the music tech world.

Of course, the level of sound creation and manipulation tools on Elektron instruments is amazing, but it’s the fact that each instrument pushes the user toward a performance-based workflow that sets them apart. From the more affordable Model: series to the popular Digitakt II, each instrument has a powerful built-in sequencer that lets it become the central hub of your production workflow.

While some instruments provide powerful sampling groovebox platforms like the Model:Samples, Digitakt II, and Octatrack MKII, others venture into different types of synthesis, like the Model:Cycles, Digitone II fm synth grooveboxes, and the Syntakt hybrid groove box. Choose your weapon!
