With their new Pedal Tuner, D’addario think they have given us a new way to tune guitars – as if we weren’t inundated already! Will this new model give us anything we are missing?

Known for making strings, it looks like they couldn’t resist the urge to make a different product based around what they already manufacture by the thousands on a daily basis. I suppose D‘Addario should know a thing or two about tuning guitar strings.

It does appear that this already overcrowded market place doesn’t really need yet another guitar tuner though and so I really cannot see these being any different to anything else already out on the market. I wonder if they will actually sell many, as the official RRP is, in my opinion, way too high.

The display consists entirely of LEDs, which should make it easy to read on a dark stage. Inside is a 32-bit chip, which has four times more power than previous models – will this make it quicker to tune up your instrument? The pedal is true-bypass and will mute the sound as you tune, which is always a good thing for an audience!

If it can handle bass and guitar duties, as well as extended range modern guitars, then it may do well. The proof, of course, will be in its performance and the price, but I would imagine D’Addario’s distribution network worldwide is pretty good, so you may well see these everywhere in 2017. It’s dues out in May.

RRP: $119.95
