Cort G290 Modern: New High-Performance HSS
New high performance HSS at a great price point!
The Cort G290 Modern is their new high-performance “all-in-one” guitar with an HSS layout and premium hardware. Available in three finishes, each with a roasted maple neck and modern styling.
Cort G290 Modern
Cort has been busy this year (we have already seen the Space G6TR and the KX600 Infinite), and the new G290 Modern is their latest release, based on the popular Cort G290 FAT, but now in solid colours and with some nice upgrades for 2026. This modern S-style guitar features a poplar body and a bolt-on roasted maple neck.
They have a slim Ergo V profile and a compound-radius fretboard that transitions from 12 inches to 15.75 inches, fitted with 22 tall, medium-jumbo stainless-steel frets. Perfect for modern playing styles, the roasted maple will provide extra stability and complement the three new finishes: Pale Graphite, Dusty Rose, and Military Beige.
The luminous side dots assist players performing on dimly lit stages, and are always a welcome addition on new guitars.
Cort appears to be aiming this model at guitarists who want great performance and modern features, so the stainless steel frets, compound radius, and glow-in-the-dark side dots all target that market.
Seymour Duncan HSS
A Seymour Duncan TB4 humbucker occupies the bridge position to provide the punch and clarity needed for high-gain styles, while two Cort Voiced Tone VTS-63 single-coil pickups for the middle and neck positions offer traditional clean, sparkling tones. The HSS pickup layout is controlled by a five-way selector switch and a push-pull coil-split function integrated into the tone knob, for splitting the bridge humbucker.
Hardware
Cort has gone with their CFA-III S tremolo bridge and a set of their staggered locking tuners, which should really help with tuning stability, and these are paired with a Graph Tech Black TUSQ nut. Including a spoke-nut truss rod for quick adjustments is always a nice option, and so I’m pleased they kept these guitars easy to maintain.
Verdict
I was already a fan of their cheaper G250 SE, which has the same layout, but the updated G290 Modern takes that design further with upgraded hardware and Seymour Duncan pickups. Overall, these look like exceptional value for money, and I can see them being big sellers for Cort.
Price and Availability
The new Cort G250 SE is available from Thomann, priced at £525/€599 in Pale Graphite, Dusty Rose, and Military Beige.
