The C64 Synth by Doctor Mix is now Complete – and You Can Play it in Your Browser!
It’s just amazing how much love the Commodore C64 still receives. New software is still released regularly, along with modern reissues like the 64 Ultimate. There are also numerous plugins and hardware synths that capture the legendary SID sound. Now, mix engineer, synth enthusiast, and YouTuber Doctor Mix has announced that his custom C64 Synth developed in collaboration with Look Mum No Computer and The 8-Bit Guy is finally complete. And you can even play it right in your browser!

It took seven years, but now the joint project by Doctor Mix, The 8-Bit Guy, and Look Mum No Computer is finally finished. The goal: to develop a playable C64 synth with a custom control panel and, of course, the legendary SID sound.
One look at the panel and you know that none other than Sam Battle had a hand in its design. The custom enclosure that gives the C64 Synth a cohesive overall appearance was then lovingly crafted by Claudio Passavanti aka Doctor Mix. The C64 Synth features not one, but two SID chips for a massive stereo sound, similar to some popular modifications of the original computer. It also utilizes Cynthcart, a Homebrew program that transforms the C64 into a synth (complete with a visualizer) and is also available as a C64 cartridge. Doctor Mix customized Cynthcart using AI tools to make it work better with his C64 Synth and the LMNC panel. But let him tell you all about this in the video.
