Befaco has updated its Instrument Interface module to feature a Neutrik combination connector for plugging in XLR microphone cables as well as Hi-Z guitar and line-level instruments. It also does a bit of envelope following on the way in.
Befaco Instrument Interface
This is one of those stunningly useful modules that you can’t believe you were ever without. Very simply it’s a preamp that lets you plug a microphone or a guitar directly into your Eurorack signal flow. It does all the hard work of getting the levels right for Eurorack audio and you can start blending your voice or your playing through your modular signal processing and modulation. Opens up your rack to a whole world of sound and instruments.
It has +48v phantom power for condenser microphones and a nice red gain knob to set the required input level. An input impedance switch lets you select what you need for your chosen instrument. A 6-segment LED provides some useful monitoring and the output emerges through a regular Eurorack patch socket.
The bottom half of the module features an envelope follower for stealing the character of your input signal and using it to modulate other things. There’s also a gate and trigger extractor with a threshold control.
Such a useful module if you fancy bringing some vocals, some sampling, using the effects in your rack and adding further textures. Or you can use it for creating triggers and gates from external drum machines or sequencers or for generating envelopes.
The Befaco Instrument Interface is available now for €248.05 assembled or €157.30 as a kit.
