Many of us could do with a convenient way of sharpening up our studio “ears”. Mixing engineer Max Montanez and producer Chizzy Stephens (credits include JLo, Bieber, Chris Brown, and more) released Audio Coach – a mix and ear training app that’s pretty much the first of its kind.

Available for free in the iOS AppStore and Google Play Store, it turns mix and ear training into an interactive experience where you get to adjust virtual faders, twist knobs, and push switches.

Alongside ear training, Audio Coach suggests mixing details and tips. The ear training drills start with simple frequencies and progress towards advanced courses, which are available as in-app purchases. There’s a suite of tools that you can use in and out of the studio. These include ear training drills, a metronome, delay & reverb times training, a virtual piano, and scales.

The app has a modern and extremely clean user interface which has nothing in excess but is full of useful information like the aforementioned mixing tips, scales portrayed on the piano, and all that good stuff. We can see this app expanding into something special down the road, assuming it achieves the desired success in the extremely crowded app market.

Audio Coach is a free download for your smartphone or tablet, and here are the links:
