Artificial intelligence is already big in technology, yet we’re still pondering the possibilities. Music production is also getting in with automated audio analysis, virtual assistants, signal generators and circuit modeling among all else. Here’s our pick of really cool AI-powered plug-ins to get you up to speed!

In the meantime, AudiaLab Synapse Drums is a new and promising example of AI serving music makers. The website generates royalty-free drum samples on the spot with a single mouse click. And you can download each for use in your own productions.

According to the Reddit thread (which is a great place to catch up with the developers), Synapse Drums works via machine learning. The algorithm is trained in generating drum samples, and they sound right on the money. After registering on the website, you can click on the Generate button to get a new sample. You can also save it to your hard drive with the Download button. There is also a graphic representation of the waveform, along with a third button – “Another Like This”. Use it to generate a sample with a similar character to the previous one. There are also controls for volume and reverb. At the moment, that’s all the functionality on offer, but the potential for more is quite evident!

Mind you, the generated samples probably won’t floor you or anything. You’ll get decent drum machine sounds, such as snares and basic hi-hats / percussion (made of shaped white noise). There are also organic-sounding percussion and glitchy sounds. As mentioned, the generator is pretty much in its infancy, but you can be part of its early stages for free! The developers are eager for quality feedback, so be sure to give ’em some if you can. There is definitely room for development at Synapse Drums. I’m rooting for these guys and hoping their project is going ways.
