The makers of serious analogue gear still have time for fun, lights and the dancing of modulations via their LED CV patch cables.
LED CV Patch Cables
Modulation often finds itself hidden within the patch where modulator and destination are far from each other and you can lose track of what’s going on. Wouldn’t it be a fantastic idea for the patch cables to glow to should you strength of signal passing through them? That way you can see the modulation at the destination. That’s what these patch cables are all about as well as looking fantastic.
Analogue Solutions LED CV Patch Cables have LEDs in the connector that will light red/green as the signal swings from a positive to a negative voltage. The colours are swapped for each end. The cables are slightly translucent and a bit rubbery to the touch. They are available in four different lengths of 30cm, 60cm, 90cm and 150cm but they are all the same price of £29 for a pack of 5.
Analogue Solutions says that you may experience a small drop in signal power because something has to run those LEDs but it shouldn’t be enough to notice.
I have some similar cables produced by ProducerTools.net and they are very useful for visualising modulations and they can help illuminate your modules when working in low light or at a gig. They also look pretty fabulous. However, the ends tend to be quite fat and can get crowded in dense patch bays. I’d also say that these are best used in full range LFO or gate/trigger situations because attenuated signals don’t tend power them bright enough to see.
You can order them from the Analogue Solutions website.
