With the MPC One Plus, AKAI’s launched a bright red special edition of the MPC One. Luckily, the glossy red finish isn’t the only new aspect and we’ve got a considerable expansion on the internal memory as well.

The first leaks appeared on the Pentecost weekend, now it’s official: AKAI Professional is releasing an updated version of the MPC One with the MPC One+ .

To celebrate the legendary MPC’s 35th anniversary, AKAI seems set on giving the entire range a facelift. We’ve seen the MPC X SE appear just over a month ago with expanded memory, and now we see the latest iteration of the MPC One.

The exterior remains unchanged with its 7-inch touchscreen, 16 pad triggers with polyphonic aftertouch, as well as the four Q-Link controls. One major update is the unit’s internal memory, which has been increased to 16 GB with over 2GB of samples and loops included.

On closer inspection, there are a few new features including WLAN connectivity as opposed to being limited to ethernet, which is a welcome addition. With this new wireless interface, you can now sync the One+ via Ableton Link. Also, Bluetooth is now supported too, which is convenient.

Overall, the red MPC One+ has a certain appeal. However, there are certain aspects that remain unconvincing. The RAM for one, could have been expanded, and without a rechargeable battery it remains an entry-level offering in the MPC range.

MPC devotees could be looking forward to a new MPC Live within the next year – which is certainly an exciting prospect.
