In a post on Gearslutz Uli Behringer has asked the community if they’d be interested in a String Ensemble synthesizer based upon the ARP Solina.

Solina

As part of the post, Uli attached a pdf marketing document that tells us about all of their thinking so far. It would be in the same desktop/Eurorack format like the Model D. The Eurorack connection is slightly odd for a Solina, but a desktop unit is very welcome. And it would have that legendary analogue stereo string sound from the 1970s. You could almost see it as taking the string section out of their VC-340 but of course, this would be an authentic reproduction of the original Solina SE-II circuitry.

That authenticity would also include that famous ensemble chorus effect controlled by 2 LFOs and they’d also add in a “Small Stone” phase shifter. There appears to be access to the phaser via patch sockets which is at least something useful for your Eurorack. 12 tone generators with octave divide-down technology would provide the 49 note polyphony.

At the moment they are trying to decide whether they are going to put the effort into building it so although there’s a release date of later this year on the document and a price of $249 these, apparently, should be ignored. If enough people jump up and down about it then it might just get made.

What with the CS-80 tease the other day a cynic might suggest that there must be a big synthesizer event happening soon that Behringer wants to steal attention from. Not I though, I just say hooray, more stuff!
