Teenage Engineering EP-35 K.O.-AMP Leak: Does TE Have a Portable Amp on the Way?
It’s even got a camp light!
Filings suggest Teenage Engineering is at work on a battery-powered portable amp. Called EP-35 K.O.-AMP, it can take guitar, microphone and instrument inputs and even offers Bluetooth. The campsite will never be quiet again.
Teenage Engineering EP-35 K.O.-AMP
Teenage Engineering’s founder and CEO Jesper Kouthoofd recently revealed the company is planning to stop making synthesizers. They didn’t say anything about amplifiers though. Based on an FCC filing that recently showed up on Reddit, that’s what the company apparently has cooking.

Called EP-35 K.O.-AMP, it’s a plastic portable amplifier and speaker box complete with a storage compartment and built-in effects.
Teenage Engineering EP-35 K.O.-AMP: What a Knock Out
Part of the EP line of gear that also includes the ultra-popular EP-133 K.O. II Sampler, this new K.O.-AMP matches the latter in color and style, with a plastic body, removable grilles on front and back, and a handle at the top.

According to the manual, the speaker pair includes a 30-watt woofer and 25-watt tweeter, with a frequency response of 50Hz-20Khz (although this could change).
Conveniently, the K.O.-AMP is splash proof. “Enjoy it outdoors,” says the manual. “Still, do not drop K.O.-AMP in a lake or a pool.” That would end the party real fast.
Teenage Engineering EP-35 K.O.-AMP: Inputs Aplenty
The K.O.-AMP is not just for guitars. It can take all kinds of audio, and conveniently, you don’t need to select an active input. “So gather all the family, friends and play!”

On the top of the unit, there are separate jacks for line in (3.5mm), guitar and XLR microphone, plus a USB-C port for computer and phone as a sound card or for software updates. Yes, you can update the amp.
There’s also an EP-Plug port for connecting USB devices like a thumb drive and other EP accessories.
Other controls on the top include a microphone effects dial and amount dial, plus guitar effects and amounts dials. The manual doesn’t say what kinds of effects are included.
There’s also a multi-function button for cycling through audio on the thumb drive, an FM radio (one of the EP accessories, perhaps?), or audio on a Bluetooth device.
Teenage Engineering EP-35 K.O.-AMP: Storage Compartment
It wouldn’t be a TE product without something quirky and unexpected, and for the K.O.-AMP that’s the storage compartment around the back. Remove the rear grille and the storage area is revealed.
There are additional controls hidden here as well, including microphone gain knob, 48V phantom power button, guitar gain, hi mode button, a tone knob, a line in gain knob, and a mute button. You get a camp light here too, which engages automatically when the storage compartment hatch is open.
Teenage Engineering EP-35 K.O.-AMP: Battery and Connectivity
As this is clearly intended for outdoor use, there is no mains power. Instead, the amp comes equipped with a Lithium-ion 20.1W battery. Neither charging time nor play time are listed though.
As for connectivity, you get a single 3.5mm stereo line out on the top. The K.O.-AMP also offers Bluetooth, as mentioned, but this can work in the outgoing direction too. The Auracast Mode will let you broadcast Bluetooth audio to any other K.O.-AMPs you may have in the vicinity for a multi-speaker experience.
Teenage Engineering EP-35 K.O.-AMP: Price and Availability
As this is just an FCC filing, there is no price or availability information as of now. Hopefully, should this come to market, it won’t cost too much as it’s part of the EP series, which has historically been on the affordable side.
We’ll update with new information as we get it.
Teenage Engineering EP-130 K.O. II is available at our affiliate partners Thomann* and Sweetwater*.
