Lo-Fi Delay

Walrus Audio just announced its new Fundamental Lo-Fi Delay, which features three distinct lo-fi algorithms (AM, Murk, Echo), plus a tap tempo and up to 1 second of delay time. The latest model in their affordable Fundamental Series of stompboxes.

This $99.99 pedal uses sliders to control the parameters and includes controls for Time, Feedback, and Mix. A three-way selector slide switch then lets you choose one of three delay algorithms: AM, Murk, and Echo.

Finally, hold down the footswitch for a second to engage the tap tempo feature. The slide switch’s secondary function lets users choose between quarter-note, dotted-eighth-note, and eighth-note.

I really like the simple user interface, as everything is clearly labeled, so it looks like a fun pedal to play with.

Lo-Fi Delay Modes

The three Lo-Fi Delay Modes are what make this pedal worth checking out, in my opinion, as they have a lot of character and could be perfect for many styles of music. First up, AM Mode offers brighter, decaying echoes with a vintage radio texture that slowly dissolve. Then there’s Murk Mode, and as the name suggests, it applies dense filtering and heavy modulation to create thick, swirling echoes.

Finally, Echo Mode focuses on multi-tap patterns that flow effortlessly from tight, textural repeats into expansive, syncopated rhythms tailored for ambient and lo-fi styles of music.

With up to one second of delay available, this pedal can cover a lot of ground, so if you want a delay without pristine repeats, but one that focuses on character, this is a solid bet at this $99.99 price point.

The pedal has a buffered bypass with selectable trails and runs on a standard isolated 9 VDC, center-negative, with 100 mA minimum.
