Troy Van Leeuwen of Queens of the Stone Age has a new signature Squier 12-string model out today. He’s been teasing it for quite some time, so it’s great to finally see it officially released!

We have been following the progress of this new signature model for some time, and today it is officially out. The Squier Troy Van Leeuwen 12-string model is based on a Telecaster and comes in a cool Copper Age finish like his Fender Jazzmaster model. This model is based on Troy’s Fender Custom Shop model that he plays on stage with Queens of the Stone Age.
Paranormal Troy Van Leeuwen Telecaster XII
The official name is the Paranormal Troy Van Leeuwen Telecaster XII, with two Fender-designed Alnico Telecaster single-coil pickups and a standard volume, tone, and three-way selector switch control layout.
Copper Age
Key specifications include a Nyatoh body in that Copper Age finish with a Tortoiseshell pickguard, plus a 25.5-inch scale length maple neck with a “C” profile and a matching painted Telecaster XII headstock. Hardware for this 12-string guitar includes the Telecaster 12-string bridge with a top-load, string-through design to accommodate all those extra strings (which will be fun to intonate), a wider 1.6875-inch nut to help with chords, and a set of 12 Kluson-style vintage tuners.
12-String Fun
I do love a 12-string guitar, and 12-string electric guitars are generally a lot easier to play than their acoustic counterparts. This affordable signature model could be “perfecth” (see what I did there) for anyone looking to add the 12-string chime to their recordings.
QOTSA
The new QOTSA album Perfecth is out on 30 October, and hopefully we will hear some 12-string on that as well. Troy is pretty cool, and I really do love his signature guitars (I own the Yamaha signature model and an Oxblood Fender Jazzmaster model myself), so this latest model could be a winner for many of us.
It comes strung from the factory with .010/.010, .013/.013, .017/.008, .026/.012, .036/.018, .046/.026 strings.
