Pittsburgh Modular Lifeforms SV-1 Mini: The Gorgeous Synth Is Reborn
Pittsburgh Modular is bringing back its classic desktop analog synth. Say hello to the Lifeforms SV-1 Mini!
Pittsburgh Modular Lifeforms SV-1 Mini
Pittsburgh Modular has been busy. The company recently dropped the Lifeforms SV-2, a sequel to its Lifeforms SV-1 Blackbox. That original SV-1 took what the company had been doing in Eurorack and distilled it into a portable and affordable package. It became a big seller for the company, so it’s unsurprising that a modern follow-up should come out.

What is surprising, however, is that it appears Pittsburgh isn’t finished with the Lifeforms concept. It’s now revealed Lifeforms SV-1 Mini, a new refinement of the original.
Pittsburgh Modular Lifeforms SV-1 Mini: Prototype Stage
Announced on the company’s Instagram, the new Lifeforms SV-1 Mini is currently in prototype stage. However, it’s looking really good, with styling that recalls the original but is more in line with recent products.

Information is scarce, it being early days, but it appears that the new Mini will be semi-modular like the original, with a normalled signal flow that can be expanded upon with patching.

Looking at the pictures, we can see that it will have two oscillators, with five waveforms on oscillator one and four on number two. These include the company’s proprietary sawtooth Blade waveform plus PWM, thru-zero FM, exponential FM, and hard sync. There are also two mixers, the Pittsburgh Modular multimode filter, two LFOs (reportedly with user-requested adjustments), ADSR envelope, VCA and splitter.

Additional controls appear to include an arpeggiator, glide, TRS-A MIDI input, plus outputs for CC, velocity, pitch, gate and clock I/O.
Pittsburgh Modular Lifeforms SV-1 Mini: Pricing and Availability
This new Lifeforms looks like another solid instrument from Pittsburgh Modular. It will be part of a new Mini line that will also include a Voltage Lab Mini. Exciting stuff.
According to a post on Instagram, production should be finished by mid-December, with units shipping out by January 2027. Pittsburgh is aiming for a retail price of $599, which they point out is $200 less than the original. The initial run will be 300 units, with more produced as needed.
They’re still trying to decide if they will take preorders or not. Visit the Pittsburgh Modular site or Instagram account for more information.
