Xfer Records Pink Trombone: The Legendary Virtual Mouth Becomes a free Plugin
If you’ve always wanted to know how your mouth, nose, and throat work together to enable you to speak, the famous Pink Trombone by Neil Thapen (check out the original browser-based version here) is about the best and most interactive tool you could imagine. It’s also a blast, which is why it instantly went viral.
Steve Duda, best known in the synth world as the creator of Serum, has now turned the Pink Trombone into a free plugin that runs in your DAW. Just like the original, it lets you shape the oral and nasal cavities, control the tongue, and adjust various parameters to create nearly all vowels and consonants the human voice is capable of.
At last, you can play the Pink Trombone in your DAW just like any other software synth! I can already imagine the slew of weird Pink Trombone tracks popping up on Spotify in about a week or two.
The Pink Trombone plugin is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux in various plugin formats.

You can choose from five distinct facilities, each with their own vibe and character: Lavender, Porcelain, Cove, Greenhouse, and Baldosa.
What’s more, bathROOMs also lets you adjust the position, tile surface material, slap echo, wash (diffusion), and even the water temperature. Which other reverb plugin can do that?
And as if that wasn’t enough, bathROOMs also includes a duck-shaped ducker for sidechaining the reverb. Brilliant!

Dusk Audio Tape Echo 2: Free Space Echo for your DAW
If you don’t have an emulation of the iconic Roland Space Echo in your plugin arsenal yet, here’s a free alternative. Tape Echo 2 by Dusk Audio models the classic three-head tape delay and spring reverb, all the way from the record head to the output stage.
The plugin lets you choose from twelve modes to determine which heads are active and whether the spring reverb is switched on. The behavior of the tape transport and the ratio of the three playback heads are closely modeled after the original. You can also dial in some wow and flutter and adjust the tape age in three steps. Unlike the original, however, Tape Echo 2 does offer an option to sync to your DAW tempo.
