Unveiled at Superbooth26, the Zaehl PM12 is a new analogue mixer designed for an intuitive performance-based workflow on stage or in studio.

German manufacturer Zähl Elektronik-Tontechnik has built a reputation over the years for bringing creativity into high-end audio designs. This goes further than just catering to analogue purists. The company has tapped into the electronic music scene and taken cues from the way artists work with sound in studio and on stage.

The PM12 is a flexible mixer with three types of modules, 12 of which can populate its modular frame. If you take a closer look at the channel strip modules, you’ll see they have a different configuration to most analogue recording and mixing consoles, with the pan controls at the top. In addition, you can switch between mono pan, L+R balance, and stereo balance controls.

In addition, each channel has a multimode filter with variable spacing and a single EQ control that can switch between high-shelf, low-shelf, and tilt EQ modes, as well as a CV input section on the rear panel. Meanwhile, for effects routing, there are three FX sends and one aux send, all with stereo TRS outputs and expansion via D-Sub connector.

Next, there is a channel module with a five-band EQ, and a cue/monitor module with the cue and headphone level controls. For flexibility, all modules are equipped with tilt EQ, switchable saturation circuits, and direct outs for discrete routing. The only thing that is fixed is the chassis with its global connection panel with the master inserts, which can be switched for mid-side processing.

Overall, the PM12 is an electronic musician’s dream, as you can decide which modules you need and arrange them to suit the way you play. The PM12 is designed to become the central hub for your live rig, but it’s equally as useful in studio, with its extensive signal shaping and routing capabilities.
