Cherry Audio Crumar DS-2 Goes to Deep Space, plus new sounds for COBALT8 – Sounds and Presets
Plus sounds for Ableton Live and KORG modwave
We kick off with a companion bank for Crumar DS-2, Cherry Audio’s latest synth, plus we look at new sounds for Modal’s COBALT8, Live Suite 12 and the KORG modwave.
This Week’s Sounds and Presets
Deep Space for Cherry Audio Crumar DS-2 by James Dyson
As sure as night follows day, the release of a new Cherry Audio synth is swiftly followed by an extra pack of sounds by one of their most prolific sound designers, James Dyson. Not content with contributing to the factory presets that ship with the new Crumar DS-2, we now have 100 extra presets from him in the form of Deep Space.
As you’re probably already aware, Cherry Audio’s Crumar DS-2 was released yesterday, adding another, previously overlooked analogue synth to its already considerable stable of superb plugins. Making full use of the DS-2’s built-in FX and extensive sound shaping capabilities, James has curated a bank of atmospheric and moody sounds.
As with most of his content, James has covered plenty of categories with this bank, but they’ve all got a theme of tranquillity and ambience, making them ideal for soundtracks and more atmospheric tunes. They make great use of all of the DS-2’s performance features, as well as the layer and split functionality.

The Crumar DS-2 is a fine addition to Cherry Audio’s portfolio, and James Dyson’s Deep Space pack is the perfect addition to your new purchase! Grab the bank direct from the Cherry Audio website for just $9.99!
Cobalt Seas for Modal Electronics Cobalt8/8M/8X by Ocean Swift
It was all looking very positive for Modal Electronics a few years ago. Initially known for some stunning, high-end and super powerful synthesizers, they released the first of what I refer to as their ‘Element’ range, the wavetable-based ARGON8.
The success of this was followed by the virtual analogue COBALT8, which, like its predecessor, came in 37 and 61-key versions, as well as a desktop/rackmount unit. And then things went a bit wobbly, business-wise, with the company eventually being rescued by the manufacturer Modal used to build their synths!
The CARBON8 finally made it to market last year, but for me, the COBALT8 is probably the nicest of the trio, and it seems Ocean Swift concurs, with the release of COBALT Seas, volumes 1 and 2, plus a free pack entitled, ‘Free Sea’.

The team at Ocean Swift have dived deep into the COBALT8’s architecture and mined 100 sounds, 50 per pack, that cover all the expected sound types, all of which can be managed and edited in Modal’s brilliant companion editor/librarian app.
And if you need some convincing, just download the free pack which gathers up 10 patches from the two libraries and allows you to play around and make your mind up. And when you decide to buy, you’ll find both paid-for packs have 33% off, down from €15 to just €9.99!
Dreamscape Clouds for Ableton Live Suite 12 by skendi
It’s not often that we get banks of sounds for a DAW’s built-in instrument and FX components, but here is a bank of 50 atmospheric sounds that use those elements supplied with Ableton’s Live Suite 12 to give you 10 each of arps, pads, plucks, strings and synth sounds.
Each patch uses Live Suite 12’s Instrument Rack to combine built-in synths and FX to create these 50 patches. Each instrument also contains 8 macros for easy and powerful tweaking of the sounds. Of course, you can dive in and mess around with the component parts yourself.

You may have noticed that I’ve mentioned Live Suite 12 a few times, and that’s because these sounds will only work on that version because the standard versions do not ship with all the required elements used in this bank, so make sure you have Live Suite 12 before buying.
Talking of buying, you can pick this bank up for $19.95 from the Anton Anru store now!
Space Explorations for KORG modwave by Otto K. Schwarz
Another week, another bank of sounds for the KORG modwave! When will it end?? This time, Otto K. Schwarz brings us ‘Space Explorations’, a bank containing 40 performances derived from an external sample bank of over 50MB in size.
‘Space Explorations’ uses the modwave’s motion sequencing, layering and wavetables to serve up some big, evolving textures that fit well with most forms of electronic music, be it Berlin School, ambient, soundtrack or droning.
A great deal of these sounds offer up some exciting variations using velocity and the mod wheel, along with the four modulation controls. And of course, this bank will work on all versions of the KORG modwave, including the keyboard, module and native plugin versions.

You can pick the bank up from Otto’s page at the LFO store here, for just €18!
