How much would you pay for a DJ controller of this quality? I may sound like an infomercial host from the 1990s, but looking at the press release for this new Hercules DJControl Inpulse 200 MK3, I can’t help but turn into a hype man and wave my arms around excitedly. OK, I’m exaggerating. But this new beginner-focused DJ controller is a pretty amazing deal.
For Beginners
Let’s look at the specs. The Hercules DJControl Inpulse 200 MK3 is a two-deck, USB-powered DJ controller that works with both Mac and PC computers. As it’s aimed at beginners, it comes equipped with functions that help you learn how to beatmatch – a skill that seems to be disappearing these days. I’m all for DJs knowing how to beatmatch, even if they don’t use it. The big draw is the dynamic light guides that flash in tempo to help with beat alignment. It also includes access to DJ Academy tutorials.
For Every DJ
And now for the really cool stuff. DJControl Inpulse 200 MK3 is a fully featured controller with jog wheels, tempo sliders, performance pads, a three-band EQ, filters, and headphone monitoring (I would hope so). It also offers dedicated Stems control for splitting out vocal and instrumental parts to create mashups and other creative mixes.
The controller also sports a virtual sound card for streaming with clients like OBS.
Compatible Software
DJControl Inpulse 200 MK3 works with DJUCED, Hercules’ proprietary DJ software. This features an Assistant function that suggests tracks from the library with similar BPM, harmonic key and energy.
The controller also comes bundled with Serato DJ Lite, from which you can level up to Serato DJ Pro if you wish.
Pricing and Availability
The announcement of the DJControl T10 at NAMM earlier this year may have the DJ community all a-twitter, but it’s great to see Hercules also catering to the beginner sector of the DJ market with this new controller.
And yeah, the price. Get this. DJControl Inpulse 200 MK3 costs $106 / £94 / €109 at Thomann*. That is a great deal.
