The original Weiss DS1 hardware version is a nearly $20,000 digital compressor, limiter, and de-esser with linear-phase crossover filters that allow you to carefully set the frequency range for the detection signal. In addition, it offers mid-side and parallel processing with a detailed interface with precise controls for fast and slow release characteristics, RMS reading scope, and pre-release hold delay.

More Information

The plugin brings all the key features together in an intuitive interface that lets you work with each of the five bands quickly and precisely. With the flexibility of the sidechain detection, you have the option to use internal or external signals to trigger the compression, and you can have the compressor react to a specific band, which is useful.

In addition, the DS5 has been designed for low-latency processing, and the crossover filters have three modes for different applications: Dynamic Phase, Static Phase, and Linear Phase. In use, the DS5 interface allows quick access to each band’s DS1 controls, and there are also global macro controls that add another dimension to the workflow.
