Mojave MA-C: The American KMS 105?
A new stage condenser mic from Mojave.
The Mojave MA-C is David Royer’s latest design, a handheld condenser designed for stage vocal performance with detailed reproduction.
Mojave Audio started as the side project of David Royer in the mid-1980s, building tube microphones and preamps for studios in the Los Angeles area. Then, in 2005, with the help of Dusty Wakeman, the company was launched commercially, and today, microphones in its impressive range are the preferred choices of some of the industry’s top producers and engineers.
Mojave MA-C
The MA-C brings studio-quality sonic performance to the stage in a way that only a condenser mic can. With its precisely constructed capsule, the MA-C produces a detailed and articulated vocal sound, and its feedback-resistant design allows use in high-SPL stage environments.
With a focused cardioid pickup pattern, the response remains consistent to compensate for the performer’s natural movement. This keeps the vocals present and forward in the mix, while the integrated plosive protection and minimized handling noise ensure that a clean signal is maintained throughout the performance.
With its rugged construction and high SPL handling, the MC-A is ideal for powerful stage vocals, and its excellent transient reproduction makes it perfect for percussion and brass instruments, as well as acoustic guitar and guitar amps. Because of its tight pickup zone, the MC-A is also excellent for studio applications where you want to avoid room ambience, like in untreated spaces.
This makes it useful for home recording, podcasting, and content creation. When you unscrew the capsule shield, you can access the switches to activate the -15 dB pad and low-cut. Overall, the MA-C promises to be another excellent addition to the Mojave range. Will it give the Neumann KMS 105 a run for its money?
