10K Audio Gyro: Generative Loop Instrument by Former NI Employees
Create New Loops and Melodies Quickly and Effectively
Gyro is the first product from the developers 10K Audio who have worked on Native Instruments Reaktor and Kontakt. With this new instrument, the Berlin-based team is attempting to launch its first product. Gyro is a creative tool designed to provide endless inspiration for generating loops, hooks, and melodies. That sounds very inspiring and interesting.
10K Audio Gyro is a Real-Time Playground for Creating Loops and Melodies
With Gyro, 10K Audio aims to provide a new creative tool that allows users to develop new hooks, loops, and melodies in a playful way, without having to pore over the keys or draw notes into the piano roll. The interface relies on a strong visual approach that initially appears minimalist and features colorful ambient visuals.
The instrument generates melodic loops that you can shape according to your ideas and taste. From this “starting point,” you can create endless combinations of sounds, chords, patterns, and effects. With a chord set of approximately 150 chords, you can express your musical creativity without needing extensive background knowledge of music theory.
The note-generating algorithm allows for an infinite number of variations, which the “Mood Engine” implements sonically. However, it’s also easy to take care of the details and edit them precisely. This gives you access to the four individual layers of the Mood Engine, where multisamples and wavetables form the basis of the sound together. The samples are diverse, combining hand-played instruments and vocals with synthetic sounds.
In addition to adjusting the sound of individual layers using various parameters, the 10K Audio Gyro offers a range of effects to enhance and give character to the sound. These effects include chorus, multiband compressor, tape emulation, delay, reverb, and the Halftime effect.
I had the chance to try out 10K Audio Gyro in advance, and I can confirm that the focus here is on a smooth workflow. You can quickly achieve results that can be used as a starting point for a new song or track. Gyro is also great for accompanying short videos!
If you want to try out the new tool, Gyro PLAY offers a simplified version with 438 presets. The full version has 1,553 presets and includes editing functions, which the simplified version does not.
Availability and Pricing
Gyro PLAY runs on macOS (13.4, 14, and 15) and Windows (10 and 11) as a VST3 and AU. Gyro PLAY costs €10, while the PRO version is available for €149.
