Decadebridge Shallow Grave: Triple Cascaded Filters
Who doesn’t love a good filter? Even better when there are three of them. Shallow Grave by Decadebridge is a cascaded filter plugin with three resonant state-variable filters arranged in a series. Each offers a choice of modes and features its own LFO and AD envelope, so you can go absolutely berserk with modulation. The modulators can run freely or sync to your song tempo, and there’s an option to trigger the envelopes from the input signal.

Each filter offers an input level control for the dry signal. For filters 2 and 3, you can also dial the desired amount of the output signal(s) coming out of the previous filter(s). Everything comes together in the output section. That’s some pretty powerful stuff!
Shallow Grave is available for macOS and Windows in VST3 and AU formats.
Initial Audio Initial Clipper 2: Versatile Soft Clipper
Initial Audio has updated the popular Initial Clipper plugin that originally came out in 2021. Like the first version, Initial Clipper 2 is a soft clipper designed to add warmth to your mixes while controlling the level. The developer says that it helps prevent harsh clipping and achieve dynamic loudness while enhancing the harmonic content of your signals.

In addition to an input gain knob, Initial Clipper 2 offers a Threshold control for setting the level for full saturation. The Saturation knob lets you fine-tune the curve to boost harmonics and add warmth. Finally, there’s a Ceiling knob for controlling the overall gain. A LUFS meter with several display options offers integrated loudness measurement.
Initial Clipper 2 is available for macOS and Windows in VST3, AU, and AAX formats.
Remaincalm GLOSS: Vintage Chorus and Reverb
GLOSS by remaincalm is a retro-inspired chorus and reverb effect that works best on synth sounds, but also sounds great on guitar. The freebie includes tweaked versions of two modules from the paid GOSSAMER plugin ($49).

The ensemble-type chorus offers two ‘70s-inspired models. According to the developer, one of the choruses is a “quirky take on a widely-cloned icon”, while the other is modeled after a “rare flagship synth”. What’s really neat is that you can freely crossfade between the two models, which yields a wide spectrum of unusual chorus timbres. There’s also a tone knob for sound shaping.
Next up is a dense reverb effect optimized for synth pads. The Reverb knob lets you sweep through a range of reverb textures from smaller rooms to a “chorused synthetic cathedral”.
If your synth or guitar sounds could use a bit of retro sweetening, give GLOSS a try!
GLOSS is available for macOS and Windows in VST3, AU, and AAX formats.
