Zoom LiveTrak L6max: This Portable Mixer is Hard to Beat
Following the success of the more compact model, the Zoom LiveTrak L6max expands the range with a slightly larger version with more inputs.
If you aren’t acquainted with the LiveTrak L6, it’s a completely portable compact mixer, recorder, and audio interface with built-in effects. This makes it ideal for content creators, live musicians, and, of course, home recording enthusiasts.
Zoom LiveTrak L6max
The slightly larger L6max expands the total number of channels to 12, with four combo preamps, two of which have Hi-Z input mode, and four stereo channels with -20 dB pad switches, two of which have dual-mono mode. Another key upgrade, which is unique to the L6max, is the assignable sub mix with its own output, separate from the main mix.
This allows you to assign individual channels to the sub mix and create monitor mixes separately from the two aux sends, which adds flexibility. The ability to create separate headphone mixes is also useful for streaming, as you can monitor a different balance of elements than what is being heard by the audience.
In addition, the L6max offers 14 channels of recording to microSD cards up to 1TB (not included) at up to 32-bit 48 kHz, which covers all 12 of the input channels and a summed stereo mix. Meanwhile, the L6max also functions as a 14×4 USB interface, making it a useful companion for your laptop for an impressive mobile recording rig.
Overall, with the range of effects, bus compression, and assignable sound pads with looping capabilities, the L6max is an impressive portable mixer for a wide range of applications. What’s more, the L6 editor app makes it easy to optimize your settings to suit your workflow, and the price is still very reasonable considering the range of features.

One response to “Zoom LiveTrak L6max: This Portable Mixer is Hard to Beat”
I’m not sure, but I would prefer having more stereo channels than mono channels. Additionally, I wish all four stereo channels could also be used as dual mono channels or USB channels if needed.
It’s still a great portable mixer, but I would stick with the Zoom LiveTrak L-6.
