The Warm Audio WA-87jr, WA-87jr SE, and WA-47jr SE expand the manufacturer’s range of vintage-styled condenser mics with options under $300.
The Warm Audio WA-47jr is already one of the company’s most popular mics, delivering studio-quality sound to home recording enthusiasts at a price we can all afford. Now, Warm Audio has introduced a new ‘Junior’ version of the WA-87 and a new entry-level Studio Essentials series.
Warm Audio WA-87jr, WA-87jr SE, and WA-47jr SE
The first thing to note about the Jr and Jr SE series mics is that they have the same capsules as their flagship, so the new WA-87jr has been built with the same dual-backplate K87-style diaphragm as the WA-87. In addition, both the Jr and Jr SE series mics are designed with transformerless FET circuitry, so you can expect a clean, modern sound worthy of any Pop recording.
The main difference between the Jr and Jr SE versions is the multipattern functionality. While the Jr series offers cardioid, omnidirectional, and figure-8 pickup pattern modes, the Jr Studio Essentials models are strictly cardioid. This makes it even easier to choose your next Warm Audio mic, because you’re only paying for the functionality you really need. Also, the Jr series is equipped with switches to activate the high-pass filter (70 Hz) and -10 dB pad, and includes a shockmount.
Most artists and musicians recording in home studios are only ever going to use a cardioid polar pattern, so it makes these new Studio Essentials mics an exciting prospect at only $200. Overall, Warm Audio has really thought about the needs of home recording artists with the new Studio Essentials range, offering mics that will deliver great results with vocals and speech, at a more than reasonable price.
